About

My name is Josh Marcus. I’m a South African content creation expert and author, with a passion for everything related to mental health. This stemmed from a combination of my studies in psychology (for which I earned a postgraduate degree) and my own experience with mental health treatment.

Having struggled with anxiety and depression throughout my youth, I began seeing a psychiatrist and a therapist in my early twenties. Both were life-changing. My psychiatrist helped me understand that mental illness is not a weakness – and is not just in the mind. My therapist helped me learn to love my innate sensitivity, with the realisation that it informed both my capacity for empathy and my difficulties disconnecting from my own stresses and those of others. As he puts it, everyone’s greatest weakness is also their greatest strength.

A few years later, when I started writing content on a freelance basis, I realised that I could combine my commitment to mental health awareness with my expertise in writing, along with my aptitude for business and strategy. The Empathy Hub is the culmination of that process.

For the past ten years, I have created content strategies for companies providing traditional and innovative forms of mental health treatment. Clients include individual psychiatrists and psychotherapists, teletherapy chains, creators of courses in various treatments (CBT, mindfulness, EMDR, etc.), mental health hardware and software developers, and many more. I’ve seen the industry change, through increasing digitisation and the tumultuousness of COVID, and helped companies adapt along with it.

Throughout it all, I’ve been committed to keeping empathy at the heart of everything The Empathy Hub does, both in the content we create and our relationships with the clients we partner with. We’re always open to new ideas, and especially love those that are based in your own brand of creative thinking.
